KARI LAKE IS NOT FOOLING ANYONE
INTRODUCTION
Shockwaves were sent across the country after The Arizona Supreme Court agreed to reinstate a ban on all abortions from all stages of pregnancy, with no exception for rape or incest. It only allows abortion in the case a mother's life is in danger, even if that is questionable. As a recent example showed in Texas, the law is so vague that they avoid providing any abortions. Kari Lake said in November of 2023 that she would be “thrilled” if a law banning all abortions went into effect. Now, she is urging the State Legislature to repeal the law. Kari Lake suddenly reversed her viewpoints in only seven months. No, she still believes abortion is the “ultimate sin”; she did not. It is just that she wants to win a US Senate seat.
THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT REPUBLICANS IN ARIZONA WANTED, AND ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS
The most stunning example of hypocrisy is not from Kari Lake but from former Governor Doug Ducey, who pushed the State Legislature to add two new seats to the state supreme court and appointed every single justice who voted to enact the total ban, including appointing Former Maricopa County Attorney Bill Montgomery to the Arizona Supreme Court who recused himself from this case after comments surfaced of him calling abortion the biggest genocide ever. Governor Doug Ducey also signed SB1164 in March of 2022, which bans abortion after 15 weeks and also explicitly states that Arizona Revised Statutes § 13-3603 will remain in effect, yet Ducey said he opposes the decision by the court. Arizona Revised Statutes § 13-3603 is the law that dates back to 1864 banning all abortions from any stage of pregnancy, which Kari Lake called a great law, even specifically mentioning and praising Arizona Revised Statutes § 13-3603. Kari Lake also called abortion the ultimate sin and praised the Dobbs vs Jackson decision. Yet she is suddenly backtracking because she is worried about losing the US Senate race.
THE CONSEQUENCES COULD BE VERY REAL FOR KARI LAKE
Kari Lake lost the Governor's race in 2022 and is running for US Senate in 2024. Even before the Arizona Supreme Court ruled on this issue, Kari Lake struggled in the Senate Race with lagging fundraising, and her past statements on the 2020 election were coming back to bite her. But now that she supports a law dating back to 1864 that bans abortion in all cases, even rape and incest, the damage is likely irreversible, and millions of dollars of ads will be spent against her with her statements on video. She will also face a mass of highly energized female voters eagerly voting for Ruben Gallego and against Kari Lake, especially after this decision and the Arizona For Abortion Access initiative vote. So Kari Lake is a flip-flopping and dishonest politician, but the good news is that the people of Arizona won’t fall for it.
